Can Genetically Engineered Food Feed the World?

Proponents of GM crops tell us that we need genetic modification to feed a growing population and reduce world hunger. However there is not a single study that proves GMOs have helped “feed the world.” Here are 5 facts that prove this statement is purely a marketing claim used by agrochemical companies to sell more patented seeds and chemicals:

Fact #1:

Crops have been genetically engineered for over 20 years. However world hunger has not decreased during this same time period, because most GM crops on the market were not designed to address hunger (through improved yields or nutrition). Instead, their #1 purpose is to withstand chemical weedkillers manufactured by the same companies producing these GM crops (a very profitable loop for these corporations), or to resist insects by producing their own internal insecticide. Fact #2: 

The majority of GM crops are not being used for food. The main uses of genetically engineered crops are 1) feeding meat animals (which third world countries can’t afford), 2) producing ethanol for automobile fuel (which does nothing to address hunger), and 3) producing food additives used in processed junk foods (which also fails to address world hunger).

Corporate control of food dramatically increases the cost of food, which widens the poverty gap. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the growth of hunger is not the result of a decline in food production.
